Meet Folafoluwa Mary Oginni, The First Nigerian Valedictorian In The University of Hertfordshire

Folafoluwa Mary Oginni, The First Nigerian Valedictorian In The University of Hertfordshire

I recently read the story of a girl that left me dumbfounded. Her name is Folafoluwa Mary Oginni. I decided to research a little more about her and in this article, I will share with you what I found.

Folafoluwa Mary Oginni hails from Ilesha, a town in Osun state, Nigeria.

Only recently, she recorded a 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the University of Hertfordshire, thereby setting a new record in the school and becoming the first Nigerian valedictorian in the school. Let me go into the details of her history of academic excellence.

In 2013, when she was 17 years old, she emerged the overall best pupil in the May/ June 2013 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) when she scored the highest grade (A) in all the subjects she entered for (including Mathematics and Englis language) except for French where she had a B.

Her success got me thinking because these days, it’s rare to see anyone scoring the highest grades in secondary school. Now, if you get to see any, they rarely carry on that tradition to the university, because they tend to lose track along the way. Anyway, let me get back to my story.

Folafoluwa kept up her tradition of getting good grades by becoming the best graduating student from the University of Hertfordshire.

I thought she studied a simple course like Theater Arts for her to get that kind of GPA but when I found out she finished her law degree without getting a B throughout her stay, I was shocked, because she studied one of the toughest course I know and she gave it her all.

She graduated with a perfect score of 5.0, set a new record in the school and made Nigeria proud. Those that think that Nigerians are empty barrels can see how she has proven them wrong; we have found our strength in this exceptional young lady.

A friend of mine disagrees with the fact that this young lady is exceptional. She said:

’I thought the girl did something better like performing surgery on a mosquito and bringing it back to life’’

Do you think she is over exaggerating and taking this too far?

For me, I would say Folafoluwa is exceptional. While I understand It’s not all about studying a course and getting good grades, mere looking at her pictures, I believe Folafoluwa will defend her grades and practice law effectively. She does look the part.

The twenty-one (21) year old Folafoluwa Oginni has done her part. She has made a name for herself and her praises are being sung to the high heavens in and around Nigeria.

So my dear, what records will you set? what records will you break? We all talk about making a change. Let’s learn from her and act without delay.

With focus, perseverance, persistence and faithfulness, I know we will all get there someday, do something exceptional and become notable for it.
