The blogs and websites in my top 20 are not your usual run-of-the-mill sort of blog: chock-full of the hottest gossip and bursting at the seams with entertainment buzz.
Nevertheless, this top 20 list runs the gamut: fashion, inspirational, Christian, personal, political, prose, technology and finance.
They have been chosen based on the quality and consistency of their content, uniqueness and ingenuity of delivery and appearance, and the audience they attract. It is however neither exhaustive nor absolute; there are tons of terrific sites and blogs out there, so I am definite that there will be a Top 20 part 2, and maybe even part 3; I am a Nigerian after all, and we do love our sequels.
Well then, let’s begin!!! In no particular order, I present>>>
1. Konnectafrica.Net:
Konnect Africa is a pan-African online magazine that is focused on Africa and the great achievements of Africans in this era.
“As the new Africa unfolds, we desire to showcase the wonderful achievements that are being birthed by Africans every day in Governance, Entrepreneurship, Business, Technology, Fashion, the Arts, Sports, Education and Culture. We hope our posts will inspire and challenge Africans everywhere to deep thinking, uncommon creativity, focused action and true greatness in their chosen fields of human endeavour.”
This is a terrific site even if I do say so myself; and I do!!! There are stories here that will change any pre-conceived mind-set about success, and leave you free to fly. One week on this site, and you will begin to believe that you can do anything you set out to do…and you can!!!
2.Venturesafrica.com:
Business, finance, investment, entrepreneurship…name it, it’s happening here; and not just in Nigeria. Venture Africa has its tentacles in the business climes of most African countries, delivering up to date information on the billions in funds that passes from hand to hand and nation to nation.
3. Deoluakinyemi.com:
The eponymous site is run by life and business coach, Deolu Akinyemi, who declares:
“I am passionate about helping to build enduring institutions across all the spheres of influence – Faith, Education, Family, Government, Media, Arts and Entertainment and Economy. I train and coach individuals and help them build strong values, solid financial bases and help them align them with their mountains.”
This site is laden with wisdom to understand, make and sustain wealth. It’s a gem!!!
4. Lightherlamp.com:
“The Light-A-Lamp Blog is all about spreading the news of God’s love to those who are hungry and thirsty to receive the truth about the knowledge of our Father. It is about the “good news,” told in the form of both short fictional accounts and true personal stories.”
It delivers all this and more; and the layout? Heavenly!
5. Meditationsofthesoul.com:
Stories to inspire; stories to motivate; stories that keep hope alive; this site has a calming, gentle ambience, you feel so at peace just by staring at the home page, and I kid you not. When life gets too rowdy and you want to calm your soul in the writings of faith, this link should be on your browser.
6.Thesaltchronicles.blogspot.com:
The heartfelt musing of a God-Lover, wife and mother; I think she’s the first blog to book authoress, but I am not definite. Consistent, interesting and inspiring; three attributes that are becoming a rarity in blogsville where inspiration dies at the throne of entertaining; this blog keeps it real!
7. Sisiyemmie.com:
This blog is a potpourri of life’s journey. It’s beautiful, creative, active and involving. This blog and the next one on my list, just make you keep scrolling down for more. Her Vlogs are an added oomph to an already exciting mix. Go Sisiyemmie!!!
8. Matildaschild.com:
I stumbled on this blog by accident, and quite frankly, I didn’t wish to leave. Perhaps it’s due to the tiny fact that I was schoolmates with the author, I know not; but what I do know, is it’s fashionably hilarious, and very personal. The author is a fashionista in the flesh, so prepare to be regaled by heaps of beautiful pictures; a little vain right? LOL
9. Hattylolla.com:
Is an educational, literature-laden, informative blog, by a blogger who obviously who loves blogsville, and works to make it an exciting place for its dwellers. If you are a blogger and you haven’t read ‘Blogationships’ on this blog, you are sitting on a …
10. Ofilispeaks.com:
“His blog articles are known for their humour, honesty and creativity in challenging the status-quo of work, life and family. They have consistently been featured in numerous online blogs including bellanaija, ynaija and FABmagazine. The blog’s content has subsequently been utilized in the publication of two uniquely distinct books: How Stupidity Saved My Life and How Laziness Saved My Life.”
Need I say more?
11. Xokigbo.com:
If you don’t like to read flowing prose, flee from this site!!! It does not delude you as to what its purpose is with widgets and apps and all such gimmicks, nahhhh. This site is like an examination paper; white and black!!! White is the background and black is the prose that flows almost unbroken, but oh! What sweet writing it is! Jumping from genre to genre, from English to pidgin, yes, pidgin! Need to boost that intellectual stamina? You know what to do.
12. Chikaoduahblog.wordpress.com
This is another worded blog; the author is a journalist so you really can’t expect anything less. From religion to politics, to lifestyle, to ethics, to history and spirituality, to diaspora issues and Africa’s struggles; she writes them all in exquisite free-flowing prose. I mean, just reading her ‘about me’ page had me sighing in bliss. Some people are born ‘worded’.
13. Theurbanemix.com:
Another reader’s paradise, this blog has lots of spice and everything nice-I love rhymes- culture, opinions, commentaries and fiction too. Talking about fiction…
14. Naijastories.com:
…is fiction paradise! Long stories, short stories, flash fiction, competitions; If its fiction, it’s got it!!! Sharpen your writing, and win some extra money in the bargain on this well-administered site dedicated to Nigerian stories.
15. Romancemeetslife.com:
The consistency of posts on this site is really remarkable because the subjects are so widely varied. Everything is on the plate here, everything. Fiction, opinion, romance, agony aunt, food network, events and entertainment etc; it might be a bit much, but the administrator does a good job of managing her posts.
16. Omojuwa.com:
Are you a politician or an activist –real or imagined- in Nigeria? Then you should be an ardent visitor to Omojuwa’s site; it’s becoming kind of legendary. This is an online political commentary database, complete with facts and figures all very nicely put together.
17. Jarushub.com:
This is on its way to becoming “West Africa’s premier indigenous career and mentorship blog; founded and edited by Suraj Oyewale (popularly known as Jarus in Nigeria’s Social media space), a very versatile Nigerian blogger, with more than seven years’ experience valuably contributing to Nigeria’s top discussion forums.”
The hands-on and very personalised approach of the administrators is laudable. I hope it stands the test of time.
18. 360nobs.com:
No surprises here; what you see is what you get; entertained!!! Lively site, latest entertainment news, music charts, viral videos; it’s got it!
19. Notjustok.com:
“NotJustOk.com is the premiere and most visited online platform that delivers spanking new Nigerian hip-hop/contemporary music, videos and music content daily to Nigerians by exposing remarkable artists and their materials from the fast growing Nigerian Music industry to Nigerians around the world.
NotJustOk.com was formed in 2006 and has steadily grown into one of the most visited sites within the Nigerian communities online. Voted #1 Nigerian music website in 2010 and 2011, NotJustOk.com is on a mission to spread Nigerian music to all corners of the globe.”
I verily agree: mission accomplished.
20. Olorisupergal.com:
Delivers the news, events, lifestyle, fashion and culture; it is the diva’s go-to page for what’s hot and happening in high society.
Whew! Done at last! Don’t agree? Feel free to let me know why and what other blogs should make it into Part two.
Thanks for recognizing our little efforts at Jarushub (http://jarushub.com/). Our aim is to share our knowledge and experience with other youths in matters relating to career and mentorship. This is the first honour we are getting from independent external watchers, and coming in just three months after we started the blog, we are awed.
You can trust that the efforts wont fizzle out as the last line in our citation hoped against.

Hello Bola, thanks for commenting! In my intro, I stated “The blogs and websites in my top 20 are not your usual run-of-the-mill sort of blog: chock-full of the hottest gossip and bursting at the seams with entertainment buzz.” I was actually interested in ‘unusual blogs’ which a lot of people don’t know about but which have terrific content and in a majority of cases, are inspirational. Of course, this is a subjective view, and is open to criticism. Bella Naija is a terrific site, and so I am sure is jaguda.com. Make i no write essay here oh. Thanks again!
