The fly that finds itself caught in the clutches of a Venus Flytrap will be miserable to say the least, for it will wonder what crime it has committed that is deserving of such a slow and uncomfortable death. The Venus flytrap is a carnivorous plant that feeds primarily on insects. The plant earns its name for the “beautiful and attractive” leaves that bring to mind “Venus” the Greek goddess of love; and Flytrap because as the word implies, it traps flies and other small insects. Depending on the meal, the Venus flytrap may allow the insect to play on its hairy leaves for as long as half a minute or it could snap shut in less than a second.
You know that when you stick your finger onto a burning flame you’ll get hurt. You know that when you mess around with an “irresistible” business deal that promises a quick buck once you bend a rule or two will eventually land you in deep trouble. You know that the “lover” whom you keep on the side, whom you claim reminds you of those days of your youth, will only give room for more damage in your more important relationships. You know that the habit of yours, like the cigarette you’ve puffed on for a little too long or the bottle of alcohol you’ve refused to put down after all these years, will eventually take its toll on you. Like the Venus flytrap that can grow its “lovely leaves” when all else is dying around it, when it seems too good to be true, chances are it isn’t true. You often know at the onset, whether as a gut feeling or inkling, when you’re dabbling into risky business. Whether or not you admit that danger lies ahead is a different thing, but greed or the quest for fun and excitement, will not be enough justification for the pain you may suffer ultimately.
We are old enough to tell right from wrong. We may be fortunate that the heavens have chosen to turn a blind eye on our many indiscretions, but like the Venus flytrap that may bring about its punishment swiftly or slowly, retribution will ultimately come for every wrong deed. Make amends now; cease and desist. Seek out ways to make restitution if possible: return the funds you’ve stolen, confess your sins to your lover or drop the bottle and work on breaking the addiction for good. Remember, destruction for the fly that strays into a Venus flytrap will be slow, but sure.
Regards,
Osoro.
