The Metro Section of the Guardian Newspapers got me thinking, and I decided to convert my thoughts to prose via the power Series… Many a time, we are wont to complain; about the government, politicians, the environment etc etc..-there is so much to complain about, but there is even much more to be thankful for; you can start by being thankful that your parents didn’t toss you in some garbage heap like rotten pawpaw after you were birthed as is the heart rending reality of most of the chidren at Kubwa Divine Orphanage Home.
Thankfulness, is however not the crux of my dissertation-although its pride of place in the scheme of things can hardly be over-emphasized-…compassion is, and the lie we have told ourselves is that we must all be ‘Dangote-wealthy’ before we can show a little bit of compassion. In our fiercely competitive world, compassion almost seems synonymous to timidity and who wants to be known as the timid fellow? Mrs Gloria Enearu, founder of the above mentioned orphanage home is a Civil Servant and mother of 3, full stop. With her husband’s savings, they acquired the apartment that houses the abandoned children, whom she cares for with the assistance of a staff of 4 women. That I insist is the power of compassion.
Mrs Enearu’s reason for undertaking so great a responsibility is simple: “It is the passion for the less privileged including widows and the hopeless that made me decide to partake of this humanitarian activity; we cannot leave everything to the Government.” Words on marble dear friends: we cannot leave everything to the Government. A few more babies are going to live and grow despite the unfortunate circumstances of their birth, because Mrs Enearu chose to show compassion; not only in words, but in deed.
God willing, they will one day become useful members of society and ‘pay back’ the compassion they received into other needy lives. Who knows, you might be wherever you are right now for such a time as this, for I do not think our world has ever been in desperate need of a few compassionate souls as it is now. Think on these things and let the power of compassion inspire you to good works.
