The ‘I Know a Nigerian Star’ Competition Award Ceremony

Lagos, Nigeria; 9th November 2013

The staff of Konnect Africa, organizers of the ‘‘I Know a Nigerian Star’ Competition, the winners and the sponsors gathered at the Finicky Restaurant in Yaba, Lagos for the award ceremony of the premier edition of the competition.

Billed for 12 noon, the event ran smoothly with a picture session, prayers and speeches from the Konnect Africa team. Master of Ceremonies and comedian ChimaRalph was on hand to steer the proceedings and add some gaiety to the event. Rhymester ‘Prince of Africa’ also thrilled the guests with his lyrical banter.

The sponsors-Babatomiwa Adesida of The Sahara Foundation and Ife and Kunle of Avenues2Wealth (A2W) – had the honour of presenting the awards -a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and Verizon Tabs-to the winners Dr Tombari, Stephanie Ohumu and Henrietta Okafor who were ably represented.

The event culminated on a high note with plenty to eat and drink.

1st Prize Winner: Dr Tombari The ‘I Know a Nigerian Star’ Competition Award Ceremony
1st Prize Winner: Dr Tombari
2nd Prize winner: Stephanie Ohumu
2nd Prize winner: Stephanie Ohumu
3rd Prize winner; Henrietta Okafor
3rd Prize winner; Henrietta Okafor

The judges who could not be present, had this to say:

Chika Oduah; It was a pleasure participating as a judge in the contest; the essays were a joy to read; there were lots of creative talent and many inspiring stories.

Bola Essien-Nelson: It was a pleasure to be able to help out and I enjoyed reading all the stories in spite of the time pressures.  I was just thinking as I prayed if we could do something for the subjects of the stories and not just the writers…it would be nice to let the stars know that their stories won prizes and that they are considered Nigerian stars.

And from our sponsors:

Tonye Cole of Sahara Energy: Congratulations on a job well done; the story of the winning entry is really touching. Thank you for recognising a man from a category we hardly look for or consider worthy of mention for honour in Nigeria.

Deolu Akinyemi of Avenues To Wealth: Congratulations and well done on all fronts.
