The Astronaut and His Suit

The Astronaut and His Suit

The adventurous astronaut shoots into space in a space shuttle. He wants to tread the moon, collect samples and prove a point or two. He walks around in his space suit, his outer covering, essential to filtering the air he breaths, protecting his body, and keeping him firmly resistant to the effects of the absence of the law of gravity in space. He must cater carefully for his suit as his sustenance outside earth’s atmosphere is greatly dependent on the suit.
So the astronaut performs his duties, intent on success. As great the attention he gives to his work, he bestows even greater attention to securing his suit; but no greater attention does he furnish, than to ensuring that his body is in the best condition possible.

Without his health, he lacks the mental and physical capacity to carry out his duties irrespective of the impeccable condition of the suit; the all important suit.
So he feeds, protects, and ensures that all factors are favourable to the optimal state of his well being. At this juncture we realize, that as important as the astronaut’s suit is, it is merely a tool, employed to protect the body of the astronaut.

Tired of the astronaut? Do not be.

We need to learn from the astronaut. The astronaut’s suit is our physical body, our fleshly covering, housing the spirit which is the body of the astronaut. As important as the flesh is to our sustenance on the earth, it is not who we are. Of course, we must care for it, for it is the vehicle through which we exist on the earth, but we must not act like it is all we are, or ever hope to be. We are spirit beings, having a physical experience, and the spirit is the most important factor in this equation, not the physical body.

If we were to take a measure of how much time we invest in the spirit versus the physical body, the marks for the spirit would be beyond dismal; we spend our waking hours pampering, coddling, fearing for, exalting and indulging our physical body. Like the astronaut, we must remember, the body is ONLY a carrier for the spirit; the spirit is who we are, and we can only worship and know God through the relationship of our spirit with His;

In conclusion,

“But God hath revealed them unto us by His SPIRIT: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the Spirit which is in him? Even so the things of God know no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the Spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God…but the natural man recieveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them,because they are spiritually discerned.”

How goes the astronaut in your suit?
