Osoro’s Nuggets-You Too Can Choose…

You Too Can Choose

We seem to forget that life wasn’t designed to be a bed of roses. We take for granted the blessings we receive, and completely ridicule the challenges life sets before us. We wrongly assume that a challenge in any area of life is no more than a needless distraction or a punishment for a past sin; failing to realize that aside from the nasty habit of frustrating us, challenges are ultimately intended to teach us a lesson or two in problem solving, as well as to inspire us for greater achievement.

 Ajayi crowther1

Ajayi was captured alongside his family, and sold into slavery at the age of 12. In that period, we can only imagine what difficulties those times must have brought to them; hard labor, deprived of the basics for a decent life and abused in many different ways. Like many others around him, he could have chosen to be bitter, resentful and determined to make an escape, and eager to exert vengeance upon his oppressors, once the opportunity presented itself. But when fate intervened, he chose to embrace a life of forgiveness and sober reflection on all he had been through. Convinced that his experiences weren’t happenstance but a grand design in his destiny, he devoted much of his life to God and mankind. Samuel “Ajayi” Crowther is today remembered as the first Anglican Bishop from Africa and a Missionary, a great explorer, a linguist-par-excellence, a writer and translator of great historic relevance. Most importantly, he is remembered as a shining example of all that is good that can be made out of a life that should otherwise have been filled with bitterness, regret or mediocrity.

The imperfections you feel you need to cover up are best known to you. You can blame your family for all that isn’t perfect in your life, or blame society for your lack and want, or even blame God for everything else that is wrong in-between. Or, like Ajayi, rise out of the dung hill that is your life today, and make of yourself a reference point. You are ultimately responsible for what will become your future, and your end. Make yours worthy of the limelight.

Regards,

Osoro
