“And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down…” (Matthew 4 vs 3,6). That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional Today.
Notice carefully what the devil said as he tempted Jesus, “If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread”. The devil seemed to say, “If you are the Son of God, do something to prove it”. He seemed to ask Jesus for a proof of his personality. He asked Jesus for a proof of his relationship with God.
Notice that on both occasions, Jesus responded by saying, “IT IS WRITTEN”. Jesus’ response to the devil’s demand for proof was to refer the devil to God’s Word. Devil asked for proof, and Jesus gave the Word. Jesus had nothing else to prove when the Word of God was involved.
Isn’t it true that everyday, life continues to ask us for proofs? Sometimes, when we declare our faith in God, people literally ask us to prove that God is truly on our side. Sometimes, situations show up and ask for proofs of God’s dependability and reliability.
Today, glean a lesson from Jesus: You have nothing to prove to the devil! You need not break your head to show that God is on your side.
Just like Jesus made reference to God’s Word in response to the devil’s call for proofs; God’s Word is more than enough proof for every “If” that comes your way. God’s Word is your Proof that your destiny has been crafted by God. God’s Word is your proof that the traps of the enemy won’t hunt you down. God’s Word is your Proof that there is laughter and joy ahead!
Depend on the Word! It will work on your behalf and you will discover you have nothing to prove to the devil or to people. The Word will prove it on your behalf!
Pray with me, “Lord, Your Word is my Proof. May it continue to always work for me”.
