Not In Jerusalem
“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the King, behold, there came wise men from the East to Jerusalem, saying, where is He that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East,and are come to worship him”. (Matthew 2 vs 1-2). That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional Today.
When the wise men in our Focal Scripture saw the Star of Jesus, they went to Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the capital city of Israel. It was the place where Kings were expected to be born. It was the place where Kings reigned from. It is regarded as the holiest city in the Hebrew culture.
Notice that when the Wise Men came to Jerusalem, they didn’t find Jesus. They came to a place where they would have expected to see Kings, but they didn’t find Him there. Jerusalem may have been the city of Kings, but the new King was not there.
Isn’t it true that in life, we expect to see ‘Kings’ in ‘Jerusalem’?. We build our expectations around the traditions of men. We make our projections based on the knowledge of mere mortals. We often feel we would be more relevant if only we move to better jobs; we would make more money if we move to other businesses; we often imagine that we would find greener pastures if only we find ourselves in better cities.
Friend, Hear God’s Promise to You: You may not be in “Jerusalem”, but you will find the “King”. You may not be in best of cities, but you will make progress. You may not have the best of qualifications, but God will distinguish you. Your business may not be in the best of locations, but your profitability will still be high. You may not have the right connections, but God will cause you to have what He has already destined for you.
Break away from every wrong fixation and obsession on human indices. Just maybe, that “King” you seek is not in “Jerusalem”.
Let’s Pray, “Lord, even if things don’t add up by human indices, may I still walk in distinction in Jesus name”.
