“…and thou shalt come to the Plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine: and they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread…”(1 Samuel 10 vs 3-4). That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional Today.
Today’s Focal Scripture reveals that the three men that met Saul all had different items. One had three kids, another had three loaves of bread, while another had a bottle of wine. They had Variety in what they had. They had a bit of this and that. They had different things that one could choose from. They had different options that were all reasonable and attractive.
Now,notice that out of everything they had, Saul was only instructed to take two loaves of bread. Out of the different options the men had to offer, God had only one option in mind for Saul. Out of every available Variety that one could easily desire, all that God wanted for Saul were just two loaves of bread. Saul didn’t need to take everything that was available. He didn’t need very option. He didn’t need the available Variety.
One mistake we often make in life is to live like people who need to try every available option in life. We often imagine that we need Variety to spice up our lives. We often try as many options as we can as if success is dependent on the variety and multiplicity of options.
