Mwamvita Makamba says; “No One Can Deliver You Success Except Yourself”.

Waking up this morning, I thought to myself that success is not as difficult as a lot of people say it is, neither is it as distant as the sluggard says it is.

Yes! Success is very….. Close, but then it can only be as close as the eyes can see; for only a man who not only sees but also believes that he sees success can attain success.

Mwamvita Makamba is a lady that has not only seen success, but one that has got a firm grip of success.

She has amassed extensive knowledge in telecommunications industry in emerging markets and has also acquired an in-depth understanding essential to steer any company or business to unimaginable heights.

She is the Business Performance Partner:Corporate Affairs & Trustee at Vodafone Foundation for Vodacom International. Which makes her responsible for overseeing the setting up and implimentation of Corporate Social Investment (CSI) and Stakeholder Relations Agenda within the Vodacom International Markets i.e Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho and Mozambique.

Before her appointment as the Corporate Affairs and Trustee at Vodacom foundation, she was Chief Officer for Corporate Affairs, Business and Enterprise Sales for Vodacom Tanzania. She has worked with Vodacom for more than four years.

Interestingly, she is the first woman to have worked in such senior positions since the inception of the company more than 10 years ago.

Mwamvita shared her eight big lessons for 2012 and hope for 2013 on Bongo5 web page.

She had this to say about positive thinking; an attitude she acknowledges as the major secret to her great success; “I have never been this positive, I have always believed in the power of being a positive person but it has been a struggle to stay positive, In 2012, learning and mastering the art of positivity has single handedly delivered my bliss and success this past year, there is always a positive side to any story or situation, however bleak it looks. Search for only that. Negativity is poisonous and only brings out the worst in any situation, be it at work or home. Stay focused, smile more, and stay genuinely positive. The attitude will take you far”.

A writer once said and I verily believe that one can only be as successful as he makes up his mind to be. I take this to mean that a person’s level of success is determined by his decision; for no amount of trouble is able to crush a mind that is firmly made up.

This woman of excellence has earned both Undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Politics and International Relations from University of Dar-es-Salaam.

She is also a Director of MossWood Transport Tanzania Ltd, a private entity that owns three aircraft and trains private pilots in Tanzania.

The leading lady also sits on Vodafone Group Foundation Board of Trustees where she is representing emerging markets.

Mwamvita is a big dreamer and a major achiever, she hopes that women, especially the ones in the working class will arise, dream big and maximize their God given potentials. She believes that every human being has the responsibility of molding his future to the desired form, it is not a job anyone can do for his neighbor.

In her words; Don’t just dream, dream big. If you can at all dream, why not dream big? As my earlier lesson, the world has enough space and opportunities for all of us, regardless of our background or where you come from. I come from a middle class Tanzanian family and went to normal government schools in Tanzania. My degree and masters degree, all from the University of Tanzania. I worked myself up and made my life in my own because I dreamt! I am not saying that I have achieved all that I want but I am surely on the right. Every day I get inspired and I dream better and bigger dream, I see most of them becoming true every day in my very own eyes”. Mwamvita Makamba

Mwamvita’s excellent leadership and determination have attracted both local and international attention. Little wonder she was selected as a Fortune Most Powerful Woman, which enabled her to be mentored by multiple Silicon Valley’s executives in United States of America.

She was also instrumental in making M-pesa Women Empowerment Initiative- MWEI (Through M-pesa platform) a successful entity while overseeing the re-branding process of VODACOM Tanzania.

A word of advice from the woman of wisdom; “there is no shortcut in life, if you are to excel in anything you do, you have to work hard. But more importantly, work smart! Plan your schedule, prioritize, and meet every deadline you set for yourself. There is no excuse and no one can deliver you success except yourself. One of the greatest things I learnt this year is that it is all possible. You just have to go for it and be willing to work for it”.

Mwamvita is the mother of a lovely daughter named Malaika.
