Former United Nations Peace-Maker Malik Dechambenoit: Brokering the Peace of Nations

One reason I love Konnect Africa is that it brings together a great diversity of Africans in one huge online melting point, expanding our world-view beyond our localities and preaching the message of unity in diversity; more than one reason?

United Nations Peace-Maker Malik Dechambenoit

How else would you know of Cote D’Ivorien Malik Dechambenoit a leading political analyst, mediator and strategic advisor? Based in Johannesburg South Africa, Malik Dechambenoit is a Partner and Co-Founder at Gumbi, Dechambenoit & Associates an advisory firm that provides services on Government and Regulatory Affairs, Transaction Support, Strategy Development and Implementation to companies investing in Africa and around the world. Malik Dechambenoit holds a Bachelor’s degree in Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London and a Masters degree in International Political Economy from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom. He has been awarded the National Defence Medal, with exceptional merit, by the French Government.

Prior to his transition to the private sector, Malik served in a Senior Political Advisory role at the United Nations from 2002 to 2009 where he plied his expertise in international peace-making efforts in Central and East Africa (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi). In that capacity he served as a Senior Advisor to former Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania and Ketumile Masire of Botswana.

He also served at the United Nations headquarters in New York, where he planned and managed some of the world’s largest Peacekeeping Operations. He participated in high-level Inter-State Mediation processes and worked closely with senior Government officials in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, the African Union, the International Criminal Court as well as multi-lateral donors like the European Union and Commission, World Bank, IMF and African Development Bank. He worked closely with the World Bank and the European Commission on the formulation of a “Governance Compact” for the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Malik Dechambenoit has wide-ranging experience garnered from a decade of service with working with government agencies at the international, central and local levels in Africa as well as Fortune 500 Companies and global investment funds. He sits on the board of several companies and institutions and is a sought-after speaker and panellist at transnational symposiums.

What a life he has lived; to be able to assist in brokering the peace of nations, what a purpose! Would you like to take decisions that will affect nations positively? I would. It is after all the African way!
