Is he the promised one? That has been the question on the lips of every Enugu citizen, but I guess the high rate of development in the state is answering the question.
Born in 1974, Engr. Chukwuemeka Ujam, the commissioner for lands and urban development on Enugu state, might have read the minds of the people as his every action is in accordance with the citizen’s heart desire.
Despite his dual citizenship, he chose to serve his fatherland, choosing Nigeria over the United Kingdom, after spending fourteen (14) years in the latter. Chukwuemeka Ujam obtained his SSCE from Federal Government College, Enugu in 1991; he became a graduate in 1997, obtaining a B.Eng. in Electronics Engineering from the prestigious University Of Nigeria, Nsukka.
He left for Kings College University of London where he obtained his M.Sc(management in IT) in 2001 and in 2008 graduated with a PhD in Electronic Engineering from University Of Kent, Canterbury, United Kingdom.
Dr. Chukwuemeka’s professional working experience span from 1997 to 2010 in the areas of information technology and security systems.

He belongs to quite a number of professional engineering bodies which include: Member, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE); Member, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE); Member, British Computer Society (BCS); Member, Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE).
A man with such reputable track-record both in learning and in character, just like Christ left his high priced and prestigious position to come back home amongst his own people and today he is the Honorable Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Enugu State, Nigeria.
Dr. Chukwuemeka’s administration has put Enugu on the map as being the first South-eastern state to introduce GIS-Based land asset management. The Enugu Virtual Street project is a Geographical Information System that will help the state in managing its land assets and improve the quality of life of all who dwell and transact business in Enugu. His British idea and mindset can be seen in the specific features of the system upgrade to be built include Enugu Township street view with some in three dimension, Enugu A-Z (similar to London A-Z), this development is a brainwork of Dr. Chukwuemeka Ujam.
Enugu State today is one of the best if not the best in Nigeria. Many unapproved structures have been demolished and their owners relocated. The roads are free from congestion by kiosks and unwanted shops. Buildings built on water ways and drainages have been pulled down and the water channels cleared, making Enugu safe and free from flooding.
The State Government and Ministry of Land under the leadership of Dr. Chukwuemeka Ujam are jointly Enugu rid of housing and accommodation issues. The new Enugu Lifestyle and Golf City is a mixed development city that incorporated a commercial layout for residential buildings, heavy industries, light industries, office parks and shopping malls. When completed, this will be the first purpose built city in Nigeria that should attract industry partners seeking an environment that allows them run the most efficient businesses.
Chukwuemeka Ujam orchestrated the allocation of lands to the Federal Airports Authority Of Nigeria (FAAN) for the expansion of the domestic Akanu-Ibiam airport to an International airport, the very first in the South-East region of Nigeria. The development of the state that comes with the presence of the international airport cannot be over emphasized. It has made Enugu the gateway to the Southern part of Nigeria, which we all appreciate.
Enugu State has been in the process of becoming an ultra-modern city under this administration. Dr. Chukwuemeka Ujam has made a difference which was not seen in the past administration of the state. He is a typical son of the soil and Enugu State is grateful to him and his ministry.
Dr. Ujam is married with two children.
