“…Make haste now, for he came today to the city; for there is a sacrifice of the people today in the high place. “(1 Samuel 9 vs 12). That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional Today. It is important to note that on the day that Saul met Samuel, there was a sacrifice in the city. People were offering sacrifices while in the city. It was a city-wide sacrifice. Everyone was involved in that collective sacrifice for the city. They didn’t dwell in the city for the purpose of enjoying the city; they also made sacrifices in the city.
One of the tragedies of the Twenty First Century is that we love to enjoy the cities we live in yet we are scarcely willing to give up anything for the advancement of our cities and Country. There is a dearth of people who are willing to make things happen in their cities. There is a scarcity of people who care about paying taxes, setting good examples in their Workplaces, getting involved in Social Responsibility, and doing things that will make a change in the city.
Pause and think about this: How often do you respect the traffic light? If everyone drove like you in the traffic, will the city be sane? Is the sacrifice of standing on queues in the mall or at service points still a big deal for you? Once it involves the government, have you always treated issues as ‘No man’s business’.
Look beyond yourself and begin to care about what happens in the city. There are people whose homes have been submerged in flood, if you can’t help financially, have you said a prayer for them. There are Inner-city children who need sound education but have got no one to help, can you be the laughter on the lips of these ones!
Stop complaining about the state of your city! Do something to change the situation. While we encourage Governmental Intervention; Ghandi encourages, “Each of us should be the change we want to see in the Society”.
Pray with me, “Lord, I choose to sacrifice for my city”.
Have a Productive Monday and a Highly Rewarding Week Ahead!
