She is a TV Producer and the pioneering hostess of the internationally acclaimed ‘Moments with Mo’, the first syndicated daily talk show in Africa. Most recently, she founded Ebonylife TV, Africa’s first multi-broadcast media and entertainment network. Before she was all of this, she was [and still is] a Human Resource Management Consultant who started her career in 1987 as a Recruitment Consultant with the Atlas Recruitment Consultancy firm in the UK. In 1990, she worked with the Starform Group, UK, and in 1993, after her relocation to Nigeria, she worked as Head of Human Resources and Training for Esso Exploration & Production Nigeria Limited (Exxon). She is also an Entrepreneur who founded Vic Lawrence & Associates, a specialist human resources development firm offering executive development services to individuals and corporate organizations. Testament to her entrepreneurial sagacity is the elegant Protea Hotel, Oakwood Park which she facilitated; the hotel situated in Lekki, Nigeria, is fully equipped and contains dedicated training and conference facilities.
Mosunmola Folake Abudu nee Akintunde is one African woman who keeps raising the bar every day and in every way!! You would think she would be cooling her heels, raking in the dough while working for Exxon, but no! She seems to constantly challenge herself; like so I have conquered this talk show thing, why don’t I start up my own TV channel?!
Mo Abudu who was born in 1964 hails from Ondo State of Nigeria. The bulk of her growing years were spent in the United Kingdom where she worked her way through college including a stint at Kentucky Fried Chicken. She attended the Ridgeway School, Mid Kent College and West Kent College. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Human Resources Development at the University of Westminster in London.
She embarked on the career journey which I have recounted above and is now one of the most visible women on TV in Africa.
Culled from the Moments with Mo website, the Show “holds the pride of place of being the first-ever syndicated daily talk show on African regional television…The show is gradually transforming the flavour, face and—indeed—fashion of African TV…by constantly portraying Africans and Africa in a positive light; building, projecting, promoting and reinforcing the new contemporary face of Africa: strong, confident, savvy, independent, bold, intellectual, responsible. With over 300 episodes—and still counting—of the show recorded and aired with numerous topics ranging from issues of lifestyle, through health, culture, politics, entertainment, tradition, to music and inter-racial marriages. The roll-call of guests on the show has been truly impressive; from Presidents, to Nobel Laureates, to the US Secretary-of-State, to Celebrities of every nature, to Governors, to regular everyday people, who are doing extra-ordinary and not-so-everyday things!”
Mo Abudu is also the founder of The Inspire Africa Foundation, the human investment arm of Inspire Africa Ltd which is the umbrella body under which the Talk Show was birthed. Its goal is to make a difference in the lives of Africans who are victims of the 5D’s – Disease, Despair, Destruction, Disaster and Destitution. The Inspire Africa Foundation is about changing lives and making dreams come true.
Mo is currently on a search for a co-host as she plans to rejuvenate and spice up the ‘Moments with Mo’ Show. Who will dare stand in the spotlight and wear the crown?
