I like to introduce to you one of Africa’s fast rising stars, a pretty and dynamic young woman with a large heart and big dreams. Her name – Yetunde Odugbesan.
She is a Nigerian who was born and raised in New Jersey, USA. From a young age, she has always been in the forefront of Leadership. From elementary school where she was always a high-academic achiever, she was the captain of her school’s basketball team. She later got into cheerleading, becoming the captain of the Varsity cheer-leading team, then President of the Student Government. She was always in some type of leadership position.
She has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media Studies with a double minor in Organizational Leadership and Africana Studies from Rutgers University. Yetunde received her master’s degree in Global Affairs with a concentration in International Law from Rutgers University. She is a graduate of the United Nations Worldview Institute, an executive training program for business executives and professionals in the field of Global Business and International Affairs. She is also a graduate of Eagleton Institute of Politics and currently a Ph.D candidate at Division of Global Affairs at Rutgers University in New Jersey.
An international public speaker, author, humanitarian, TV/Radio Personality and entrepreneur, she is the CEO and Founder of Yetunde Global Consulting LLC., a management consulting firm which specializes in leadership development and training, organizational management and global business strategies.
Yetunde is also the Founder and Director of Young Womans Guide, an organization that provides women empowerment events, resources and opportunities to give back and get involved with various philanthropic and humanitarian initiatives geared toward women and girls development. She is most passionate about youth development and leadership, women and girl development,
Yetunde is a New Leaders Council Fellow. She is a board member of numerous philanthropic foundations and humanitarian organizations. She is a member of the 101% Society, Young Professionals in Foreign Policy, United Nations Association of New York, Young Professionals for International Cooperation, Global Women Leadership Collaborative and an advisor for various organizations. She was the Assistant Editor for Public Performance and Management Review (PPMR), a leading peer-review academic journal that addresses a broad array of influential factors on the performance of public and non-profit organizations.
Yetunde is not resting on her oars. She is ruthlessly pursuing her goals. In August 2012, while on a three (3) week trip to Nigeria, she spoke to about 500 students of the University of Ibadan, on the importance of social values.
She has also co-authored a published book titled “A Call to Serve: Quotes on Public Service.” It was borne out of her strong interests in service and to encourage more people to public service
I don’t know where she finds the time to be all this and more, but the truth be told – I am inspired by this young woman’s achievements. To think she is just 25 years old is mind-blowing. Interestingly, she still finds time to pursue her female pleasures – shopping and fashion. She is also a huge fan of Lauryn Hill, USA First Lady Michelle Obama and Oprah.
On Yetunde’s thoughts about Africa, she said, “I just believe we have potential,” I couldn’t agree with her more. Hope you found some inspiration from her story. 2013 is already in full swing. Make that move now and live a life of impact. Africa is watching!! Africa is waiting!!
